Homily

Described by Grenfell and Hunt as a 'fragment of a Christian homily or treatise on the spirit of prophecy'. A. Harnack in Sitzungsberichte der Königlich Preußischen Akademie der Wissenschaften zu Berlin 36 (1898), 516-520 identified that lines 1-9 quote from Hermas, Pastor, 11.9.10, and suggested that the text as a whole could be a fragment of the treatise by Melito of Sardis, De prophetia, recorded by Eusebius; see further H. Paulsen in New Testament Studies 25/4 (1979), 443-453.
